Hairy wood mint flowers consist of (from back to front) a tubular, stubby calyx with five long teeth and margins with very long, soft white hairs; a white or light purple tubular corolla with an unlobed upper lip, hairy on the outer surface; and a three lobed lower lip with scattered purple dots. Two stamens and a pistil with a bifurcated stigma protrude. Upper right — an ant for scale on a hairy wood mint flower.

About

I want to acknowledge the work of a friend and colleague, Dr. Fred Donner. We both share a passion for the flowers in Jackson Park. Fred's website (jacksonparkwildflowers.org) inspired me to build my own website and database; use and enjoy them both.

I am also pleased to thank my ninja web gurus and coders, Lindsey Young and Stefanie Engstrom. This site would not exist without their herculean labors.
