French grass flowers are 1/4" long, pea-like, with a short, green, tubular calyx with five teeth, and five blue, purple, or white petals — a single upright banner, two forward-projecting wings, and two closely-appressed petals that make up the keel (largely hidden by the wings). Ten stamens and the style are nestled inside the keel. Seedpods are about 1/2" long with a stout, pointed "beak."
